  • The reason that the $1 coin isn't in widespread use is because people keep using what they are used to–the $1 bill. If the $1 bill were discontinued, people would start using the $1 coin by necessity.

  • Also, many countries have gotten rid of their lowest denomination coin. The Danes got rid of their 25 øre coin last year, making their smallest the 50 øre.

  • Hi. Those banknotes are my design. The reasoning behind not needing a penny is that when the half-penny was discontinued in the 1800's, the penny (the smallest coin) had more buying power than the quarter does today.

  • My thoughts exactly. I keep hearing that straight young black women are the fastest-growing HIV+ demographic, but the Red Cross realizes how ridiculous it would be to discriminate against blood donors based on age, sex, or race. But discrimination based on sexuality is fine?

  • Tell me how homo-sexuals reproduce? Either they don't (which doesn't help any argument against their marriage unless you also believe infertile couples shouldn't be married), or soon they'll be able to have a test tube baby with both of their genetic material.
